Hacía tan buena mañana cuando nos levantamos que desmontamos la tienda y la dejamos secando encima de unas rocas mientras desayunábamos, así que nos tomamos nuestro tiempo.
Empezamos a caminar y a los cinco minutos llegamos al Refugio de Colomers, que ya estaba con un montón de gente alrededor.
Cruzamos la presa del lago del refugio y compartimos camino con Carros de Foc, que debe ser lo que está haciendo todo el mundo, hacia el Estany Llonch y el Estany Redó que pasamos rápido y seguimos hacia el Estany Obago.
El camino es muy bonito pero al ser dentro del Parque Nacional d’Aiguëstortes hay mucha gente parándose de repente a hacer fotos en medio del camino, esperando que alguien con mochilas de 12 kg se paren a media subida y les dejen pasar mientras bajan… domingueros.
Subimos hacia el Port de la Ratera (2534 m) y casi nos vamos hasta el Refugi d’Amitges en lugar de directamente al Estany de Sant Maurici.
Pasamos el famoso Estany de Sant Maurici bastante rápido porque está muy nublado y la señora de la caseta de información nos había avisado que habría tormenta.
Los últimos 8 km de la etapa son por la carretera que usan los taxis 4x4 para llevar a gente desde Espot hasta Sant Maurici.
Nos acaba pillando la tormenta a unos 20 minutos de Espot que nos deja calados así que al llegar al camping, en lugar de acampar nos quedamos en una habitación.
Una vez que estábamos instalados, duchados y cambiados, salió el sol por lo que nos fuimos a dar una vuelta por Espot, que es muy bonito.

PYRENEES TRAIL GR11 STAGE 18: COLOMERS GUARDED HUT - ESPOT
We took the tent down before 7 when the sun was about rise but we hang the cover and the inner part to dry while we had breakfast. We took our time making coffee and porridge so it was pretty much dry by the time we packed it.
We left the camp and arrived in Colomers Hut in less than five minutes, lots of people walking around it or still having coffee in the deck.
We crossed the dam and shared our path with Carros de Foc (this hike’s name stands for Fire Carts) up to Sant Maurici. This is a really popular hike because you can sleep in guarded hotel-huts every night and there’re a few operators that organise all the logistics for you. We past Estany Llonch and Estany Redó and headed to Estany Obago, where there’s a free hut hiding off the trail.
We had scenic views all the time but at the same time the trail was busier than usual because it was within Aiguëstortes National Park. We understand that if something is pretty then it’s busy but we’d like that people would have a bit more consideration. The usual mountain rules such as not stopping in the middle of the trail, let the faster hikers pass or give way to those going uphill don’t really apply because no one is aware of them!
We reached the top of Ratera Pass (2534 m) and almost take the wrong way to Amitges hut instead of taking the straight route to Estany of Sant Maurici.
Once at Sant Maurici, we took a few minutes in the information hut to check the weather forecast and get a few details about accomodation in Spot. Thunder was imminent but the trail to town flows through the bottom of the valley and was not exposed so we hurried down.
There’s a road for the last 8 km and a local 4WD taxi service takes visitors from Spot to the Lake of Sant Maurici. There’s also a path that saves you to be on the road a few times but there’s no alternative for a good part of it.
While walking down we could hear the thunder and finally it got us about 20 minutes far from the village. We couldn’t find any kind of shelter on the road so we ended up soaked to the bone. Then in Spot we found a camping with rooms and decided to stay in a room and try to dry our stuff and ourselves.
After taking a shower and putting some dry clothes on, the sun emerged again and so we did. Spot turns out to be a very cute mountain town with one of the best cheese we have ever tasted.
