Salimos de Candanchú cuando la división de montaña de la Guardia Civil vuelve de hacer maniobras. Todos saludan; así que después de 40 “holas” cada uno seguimos el trazado del Camino de Santiago hacia la Canal Roya.
Pasamos por al lado de las ruinas de la Chimenea del Anglasé, una antigua fundición de cobre y hierro. Seguimos adelante hacia el Refugio de Lacuars, que es ahora una cuadra ya que alguien se llevó la puerta y ahora acampan dentro las vacas.
El camino sigue por el fondo del circo glaciar sobre lo que se conoce como el Plano de La Rinconada, donde llegamos a ver un ciervo.
Llegamos al final del circo y lo que parecía una pared vertical no lo es tanto así que podemos subir siguiendo los cursos de agua del deshielo hacia los ibones de Anayet, donde todavía hay neveros que facilitan el paso hacia el Barranco de Culivillas, la espectacular bajada hacia Formigal.
Ahí nos encontramos con tres amigos que están de ruta con su perro, alguna familia y un grupo de señoras francesas que tentaron a la suerte cruzando un finísimo puente de nieve que se había formado sobre el río.
Una vez llegamos a Formigal la etapa se transforma en un suplicio ya que hay que caminar por la carretera y eso afecta mucho a los pies de Marina, que todavía va sin las plantillas adecuadas.
Entre Formigal y Sallent de Gállego se alternan tramos de carretera con camino rural bastante feo. Para la próxima vez vale la pena intentar hacer autostop porque son 3 o 4 km muy feos.
Al final en Sallent de Gállego Marina pudo comprarse las plantillas de gel que le van bien, poniendo fin a tres jornadas de sufrimiento podológico.

PYRENEES TRAIL GR11 STAGE 8: CANDANCHÚ - SALLENT DE GÁLLEGO
We left Candanchú in the morning when the mountain division of the Civil Protection Force was already coming back to their base located in this town. As the polite professionals they are, they all waved hello and, after 40 “hellos”, we took the same path as the Camino de Santiago towards the Roya Channel.
We walked past the remains of the old copper and iron foundry where the Anglasé chimney still stands. We carried on to Lacuars Hut. This shelter is missing the door and mostly cows and other animals bivouac there rather hikers. It can still safe you from an emergency as the structure and the roof is still intact.
The track reaches a flat extension of land of glacier cirque known as Rinconada Flats where we could see a deer.
While walking on those flats we kept wondering which would be the vertical wall that we would have to climb to cross over the range. At the end, the path wasn’t as hard as it looked and we could easily climb up through a steep but not technical terrain. We found some streams on the way caused by the thaw of the Anayet Ibones and the snow caps still remaining at the top of the pass. Past the lakes the trail descends over the wide Culivillas Gully providing magnificent views of Formigal and its ski area.
The hike through the gully to see Anayet Ibones from Formigal carpark is a popular day hike and the gully is busy with people. A group of French ladies decided to test their luck crossing the skinniest snow cap left over the ice cold river.
Once we got to the bottom of the ski resort the day turns into a torture because the path follows the paved service road. That made me particularly unhappy as I was missing my insoles and walking over the hard tar was specially painful. Hitchhiking that section isn’t an option because the road is private and close in the summer and only opens in the winter to access the resort.
Then, between Formigal and Sallent de Gállego, tar road and rural road sections alternate and the scenery doesn’t really improve much. The next time we would have to cover the distance between this two towns we’ll probably put our thumbs up by the road and save our feet those 3 or 4 km.
In Sallent de Gállego I could finally buy myself a pair of gel insoles and end a three day chapter of extremely painful walking.
